Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning

The Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Certificate prepares students for careers in the maintenance, service and installation of residential and light commercial HVAC systems. The Certificate may be used as one of the technical disciplines required for the AAS in General Technology. HVAC 1001 - HVAC Internship  is available for students interested in improving their technical skills and making contacts within the HVAC industry. HVAC 1001  may be repeated up to three times for credit.

Program Learning Outcomes

  • Students shall understand and follow basic safety standards set forth in the HVAC/R industry.
  • Students shall be able to identify and correctly use hand tools, meters, gauges, torches, electrical, digital, and other types of tools commonly used in the HVAC/R industry.
  • Students shall be able to successfully perform equipment maintenance on residential and light commercial HVAC/R equipment.
  • Students shall be able to successfully install HVAC/R equipment in a residential or light commercial application.
  • Students shall be able to successfully service HVAC/R equipment in a residential or light commercial application.
  • Students shall have obtained the EPA Certification.
  • Students shall have obtained the ICE Certification.
  • Students shall have obtained the NATE Certification.
  • Students shall be able to successfully service commercial refrigeration equipment.
  • Students shall be able to size and fabricate entry level ductwork.
  • Students shall be able to perform load calculations on residential structures.
  • Students shall be able to interpret mechanical and building codes.
  • Students shall be able to follow basic wiring diagrams for HVAC/R equipment.
  • Students shall be familiar with soft skills while interacting with others and the public.
  • Students shall be familiar with “green” technologies and applications.
