Academic Preparedness

Northark recognizes the important connection between student success and academic preparedness. Students may be required to complete one or more of the following courses before enrolling in college level courses. Summer and/or intercession courses may be required to graduate within 4 semesters. Developmental course credits earned do not count towards degree completion requirements.

Associate of Arts

The Associate of Arts Degree is for the student who plans to transfer to a four-year institution. Course work totaling 60 hours is required for the A.A. degree. The curriculum requires a demonstration of competency in communications (oral and written) and mathematics and a mastery of skills and knowledge against specified performance standards in specific areas or disciplines. Remedial/developmental education courses are used for placement purposes only and cannot be used to fulfill degree requirements. The emphasis is such that the student may meet the lower division requirements in General Education for most four-year institutions. Students planning to transfer should follow carefully the curriculum advised by the senior institution to which they will transfer.
