SUR 1123 - Surgical Procedures I Credits: 3 This course familiarizes learners with surgical procedures. It emphasizes patient care, surgical anatomy, equipment and supplies needed for procedures, and surgical sequence. Students learn about pathophysiology, diagnostic tests, preoperative and postoperative care, and complications of surgery. Areas studied include diagnostic surgery, endoscopic surgery, general surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, and obstetric and gynecological surgery. Lecture 3 hours per week. Certificate prerequisites: HP 1042 - Medical Terminology or HP 1043 - Medical Terminology and Communication , BIOL 1434 - Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology . AAS prerequisites: HP 1042 - Medical Terminology or HP 1043 - Medical Terminology and Communication , BIOL 2214 - Anatomy and Physiology I , BIOL 2224 - Anatomy and Physiology II , BIOL 2014 .
