The Associate of Science in Education is a transfer degree for the student who plans to obtain a Mid-level (4-8) teaching degree from Arkansas Tech University or Arkansas State University in Mountain Home. Northark has agreements with these two colleges to offer students seamless options for transfer to junior/senior level courses required to ultimately obtain a bachelor’s degree in teaching. Since ATU and ASUMH have variations in required courses for these degree options, students should work closely with a Northark advisor in order to complete specific courses needed for a smooth transition to the junior level at either college.

Program Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to identify and reflect upon various attributes of an effective teacher, including, but not limited to, establishing a positive classroom environment, strategies for classroom management, maintaining student/teacher rapport, curriculum requirements, and lesson plans.
Students will be able to successfully use various forms of technology to assist them in the completion of activities and lesson plans for use with future students.

First Semester: 16 Credits

NOTE:

Quantitative Literacy is not required by ASUMH or U of A.

ASUMH requires GEOG 2003 Human Geography or ECON 2313 Principles of Macroeconomics.

U of A requires GEOG 2003 Human Geography or ANTH 2023 Cultural Anthropology.

ASUMH and U of A will accept HIST 1013 Western Civilization II for HIST 1003 Western Civilization I.

ASUMH will accept PHSC 1044 Introduction to Astronomy in place of GEOL 1014 General Geology/Lab.

U of A will accept PHSC 1044 Introduction to Astronomy in place of PHSC 1004 Fundamentals of Physical Science.

U of A does not require EDUC 2213. U of A requires completion of one of the following courses: ENGL 2213 World Literature I or PHIL 1103 Critical Thought.

U of A will accept PHSC 1044 in place of PHSC 1004 Fundamentals of Physical Science.
