The Associate of Arts Degree with an area of interest in sociology is for students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution and study in the field of sociology. Course work totaling 60 hours is required for the A.A. degree. The curriculum requires a demonstration of competency in communications (oral and written) and mathematics and a mastery of skills and knowledge against specified performance standards in specific areas or disciplines. Remedial/developmental education courses are used for placement purposes only and cannot be used to fulfill degree requirements.

Students planning to transfer should follow carefully the curriculum advised by the senior institution to which they will transfer.

First Semester: 15 Credits

ENGL 1013 - English Composition I Credits: 3
MAT 1213 - Quantitative Literacy Credits: 3 or higher
SOC 2013 - Introduction to Sociology Credits: 3

* U of A BA Math requirements require College Algebra as a prerequisite class unless one wants to complete these requirements with “Mathematical Reasoning in a Quantitative World” for which Quantitative Literacy is a prerequisite.

Second Semester: 16 Credits
