Associate of Arts (Area of Interest: Psychology)

The Associate of Arts Degree with an area of interest in psychology is for students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution and study in the field of psychology. Course work totaling 60 hours is required for the A.A. degree. The curriculum requires a demonstration of competency in communications (oral and written) and mathematics and a mastery of skills and knowledge against specified performance standards in specific areas or disciplines. Remedial/developmental education courses are used for placement purposes only and cannot be used to fulfill degree requirements.

Students planning to transfer should follow carefully the curriculum advised by the senior institution to which they will transfer.

First Semester: 15 Credits

ENGL 1013 - English Composition I Credits: 3
MAT 1213 - Quantitative Literacy Credits: 3 or higher
PSYC 2003 - General Psychology Credits: 3

ART 1003 - Art Appreciation Credits: 3
DRAM 1003 - Theatre Appreciation Credits: 3
MUS 1003 - Music Appreciation Credits: 3

HIST 2003 - United States History I Credits: 3
HIST 2013 - United States History II Credits: 3
PLSC 2003 - American National Government Credits: 3
* U of A requires College Algebra as it is a prerequisite to all of the classes required to fulfill BA math requirements; if ACT Math is 26 or higher, U of A BA Math requirements can be fulfilled with Survey of Calculus or Calculus I (Analytical Geometry and Calculus I).

* Arkansas State requires College Algebra (or a Math class for which College Algebra is a prerequisite) for Psychology Majors.

Second Semester: 16 Credits
