ET 2474 - Advanced PLCs


Credits: 4
This course is an advanced study of the Allen Bradley CompactLogix system, and how to use Studio 5000 Logix Designer programming software to program, monitor and troubleshoot discrete and analog inputs and outputs. The primary focus will be on the controller memory structure, the intermediate instruction set, analog I/O modules and using the Logix Designer software. Students will learn how to configure and operate Ethernet (Point) I/O, as well as how to configure communications between a CompactLogix controller and a Fanuc Robot and a Variable Frequency Drive using Ethernet. Students will also learn how a PanelView HMI can be used to control information in the CompactLogix controller, as well as an introduction to multiple programming languages used in the CompactLogix controller. Lecture 2 hours and laboratory 6 hours per week.
