ENGL 2223 - World Literature II Credits: 3 This is a sequence that acquaints students with outstanding works from 1660 to present, with an emphasis on the Enlightenment Period, Romanticism, Naturalistic and Realism, Modernism, and Postmodernism. The works studied have had a wide appeal outside the countries in which they originated. Students are also introduced to various ways of approaching literature, including the mythological and archetypal approach, the historical and biographical approach, and the formalistic approach. Lecture 3 hours per week. Honor section available. Prerequisite(s): ENGL 1023 with a “C” or higher or permission of instructor; ENGL 2213 is not prerequisite for 2223.
