Academic Preparedness

Northark recognizes the important connection between student success and academic preparedness. Students may be required to complete one or more of the following courses before enrolling in the MAP sequence of courses. Summer and/or intercession courses may be required to graduate within 1 semesters. Developmental course credits earned do not count towards degree completion requirements.

Clinical Medical Assistant


The Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) Certificate of Proficiency prepares a graduate to work as a valuable aid to complete many of the routine tasks involved in patient care in outpatient clinics or offices, specialty clinics, or hospitals. Students in the CMA program learn to record vital signs, assist with examinations, and explain treatments or tests, administer medications, obtains laboratory specimens, perform electrocardiograms, and sterilize equipment. Students learn to maintain the exam rooms and supply specialty areas. Graduates eligible to take CMA Certification exam at the conclusion of the program.

Students must complete each required course in the remainder of this MAP with a minimum grade of “C” to obtain this degree.
